CHAPTER SIX

THE ANTI-ABORTION MOVEMENT

ITEM: IN NOVEMBER 1983, the Toronto Star published a letter by Lloyd Devlin of Williams Lake, British Columbia, that compared the Soviet attack on a Korean commercial jetliner earlier that year, in which several hundred people were killed, to the act of abortion:

The baby, quite secure in its own environment, likely is unaware of the impending destruction facing it and has no way of pleading for its life.

Imagine the terror and imagine the excruciating pain which the baby suffers as he is cut to pieces by a curette, or burned and poisoned by salt, or ripped apart by a vacuum, sucking him out of his environment, his pressurized “cabin.” In hysterotomy he may even be gasping, and he may be struggling for life as he hits the garbage can.1
